Amidst the Greeks of Calabria Bova Marina-Bova
Between Capo D’Armi and Capo Spartivento, at the beginning of the “Costa dei Gelsomini” we find Bova Marina, which is a coastal town that grew during the last century as people moved to the coast from the mountain areas. The names of the roads are written in Italian and Greek, to remember the people who came from Hellas and settled in the area. The Museum of Greek Art and the statue of Our Lady of the Sea, which is situated near a small sanctuary on a rocky spur overlooking the sea, are both of great interest.
In all of Greek Calabria, the most important historic centre is Bova. A Greek Festival is held here and every year in August it is the site of the main manifestations during Greek week.
You can visit the remains of a Norman castle, which dates back to the XI century and was built on the site of a previous edifice, the Cathedral and the antique churches of St. Leo, St. Catherine and Our Lady the Immaculate. There are also several nobleman’s houses.
